A slow start kicked off out in the Pacific Northwest, & it began with Ethan Bartlow coming down with an injury which led him to be substituted 21 minutes into the match. Daniel Steres would replace him. Seattle maintained the pressure high and forced Jimmy Maurer to make saves in the 39th and 43rd minute. After three minutes of stoppage time, the game would enter halftime.
Starting to second half, Seattle continued to search for a goal. In the 62nd minute, Paul Rothrock would get the ball into the back of the net, but he was offside. Shortly after, Jimmy Maurer would get checked on for a potential injury, and he initially was cleared. Unfortunately for Maurer, he was unable to continue, and he would be replaced by Blake Gillingham, who would make his MLS debut. Not an ideal situation for the Dynamo who would now be down to their third string keeper. During this substitution window, Ibrahim Aliyu also came on for Nicolas Lodeiro.
The pressure from Seattle was getting stronger, and the Dynamo were forced to foul. Amine Bassi, Junior Urso, Daniel Steres, and Franco Escobar would receive Yellow Cards for the fouls they committed. The rookie Goalkeeper would make his first save in the 82nd minute. A couple of minutes later, Erik Sviatchenko and Erik Duenas came on for Sebastian Kowalczyk and Bassi. Right before stoppage time, Gillingham would use his legs to maintain the clean sheet. 5 minutes of stoppage time were added, but the Houston defense stayed solid and earned the clean sheet.
The Men in Orange will now again travel to the Pacific Northwest and face off against the Portland Timbers on Sunday Night Soccer.
