The match began with both teams implementing their style of play. 9 minutes in, Obafemi Awodesu would be issued a Yellow Card as the Dynamo came out physical. In the 21st minute, Ezequiel Ponce would be the second Dynamo player to be issued a Yellow. Houston would be forced to make an early substitution as Franco Escobar could not continue after 29 minutes, Daniel Steres came on for him. Near the 45th-minute mark, Andrew Tarbell would save a one-on-one opportunity from the Crew to keep the game tied, which is how the game entered the half.
Two minutes into the Second Half, the Dynamo had perhaps their best opportunity of the match when Amine Bassi sent a pass to Griffin Dorsey, who struck the ball first time, but his shot was blocked by a defender. Columbus retained possession and struck some shots but the game remained leveled. The Dynamo would make their second substitution of the match when Erik Dueñas came on for Nicolas Lodeiro in the 59th minute, who'd soon be booked in the 65th minute. Artur would be issued a Yellow Card in the 73rd after stopping a counterattack. In the 81st minute, Ben Olsen would make a double substitution. Ibrahim Aliyu and Brooklyn Raines came on for Sebastian Kowalczyk and Jack McGlynn. The defense remained solid and after three minutes of stoppage time, the Dynamo had now earned their first point of the season.
The Men in Orange will now return home to face off against Real Salt Lake on Saturday, March 15.
